The first woman in five generations to head the 160-year-old Destileria Limtuaco & Co. Inc.

When it comes to portraits, there's more than just getting someone to smile at the camera. It’s about capturing professionalism and personality in a single frame a balance of corporate and approachable. Recently, I had the chance to do the portraits of Ms. Olivia Limpe-Aw, the President of Destileria Limtuaco & Co., Inc., the oldest distillery in the Philippines, together with her 3 sons, Brandon, Clifford, and Aaron, it was an interesting blend of laid-back editorial, creativity, and family connection.

Corporate portraits tend to need a clean, simple backdrop, but I go beyond that and use their distillery warehouse as their environment to do their portraits. As much as the technical side matters, my main focus is on making my subjects comfortable. People often feel stiff in corporate shoots since they’re in formal attire and aiming to look “professional.” I usually start with a bit of conversation to break the ice. I’ve found that when people are relaxed, their expressions soften, and the “natural” look we’re all after starts to shine through. At the end of the day, a good corporate portrait should feel both professional and real.
